In a commendable display of vigilance and swift action, the Eastern South Regional Police Command has successfully thwarted an alleged plot to assassinate the Akyem Kwabeng Chief and Okyeman Gyaasehene, Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamato II. The suspects, identified as Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth, are currently in custody following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered their plans.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the Akyem Kwabeng community, was reportedly aimed at targeting the chief ahead of his maiden royal durbar, scheduled for October 17, 2025. Police sources revealed that intelligence gathered on October 11, 2025, indicated a conspiracy not only to eliminate the chief but also to target a woman who was allegedly set to be installed as queen mother.
The police, acting on this intelligence, deployed a special team to infiltrate the suspects' network and prevent the attack. During the operation, suspect Emelia Akua Asor allegedly attempted to bribe undercover officers with an initial payment of GH₵50,000 to carry out the assassination. She further promised an additional GH₵50,000 upon the completion of the act. In a bid to facilitate the crime, she instructed her accomplice, Butuakwa Seth, to assist in identifying the residences of the intended victims.
Police investigations revealed that Butuakwa Seth played a key role in the plot by leading undercover officers to both the chief’s and the woman’s homes. He also provided a photograph of Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamato II to aid in the planned crime. Thanks to the timely intervention of law enforcement authorities, this sinister plan was foiled before it could be executed.
Both suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. They are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days to face charges related to their alleged involvement in this criminal conspiracy.
