In a decisive operation, the police in the Ho West District of the Volta Region have apprehended a taxi driver suspected of transporting narcotics. Acting on a reliable tip-off, law enforcement officials successfully intercepted the vehicle and uncovered a significant quantity of suspected contraband.
The arrest occurred in the early hours of the day as the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Innocent Kpeglo, was driving an Opel taxicab with registration number CR 675-12. The vehicle was reportedly en route from Dzolokpuita to Ho when it was intercepted by the police. Upon a thorough search of the car, authorities discovered 37 parcels of dried leaves, believed to be marijuana, concealed beneath the back seat.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rockson Gyasi, who is in charge of the Ho West District, confirmed the incident to *Graphic Online*. He explained that after receiving credible intelligence about the illegal activity, a team was swiftly mobilized to track down and intercept the vehicle suspected of carrying the narcotics.
The operation unfolded at approximately 5:57 AM when the taxicab was spotted on the road. Upon noticing the police presence, the driver pulled over and opened the bonnet of the vehicle, attempting to create the impression that it had developed a fault. However, when approached by officers, Kpeglo admitted to transporting narcotics and disclosed that he was delivering them to an individual in Aflao.
In a bid to evade arrest, the suspect allegedly attempted to bribe the police officers with an amount of GH¢5000. DSP Gyasi commended his team for their integrity, as they refused the bribe and proceeded to detain Kpeglo. The vehicle was subsequently taken to the Anyirawase Police Station, where a detailed search led to the discovery of the illicit items.
The suspect was later transferred to the Volta Regional Police Headquarters in Ho for further processing. DSP Gyasi stated that Kpeglo is being prepared to face charges in court for possession of narcotic substances.
This incident underscores the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking within the region. The police have reiterated their resolve to ensure that individuals involved in illegal activities are brought to justice. The public is encouraged to continue providing timely information to assist authorities in their efforts to maintain law and order.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and collaboration between law enforcement and local communities in addressing criminal activities. As investigations continue, authorities are determined to uphold justice and deter future offenses of this nature.
