The Ghana Police Service has made significant progress in addressing a recent robbery incident in the Ahafo Region, with the arrest of five suspects believed to be involved in the attack. The suspects were apprehended on separate dates following intensive investigations by law enforcement authorities.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mutar Kofi, 35; Mahamadu Sagio, also known as Salifu, 45; Shaibu Issah Jallo, also known as Jibo, 28; Abdul Suleman, 40; and Bukari Sulley, also known as Tailor, 25. Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), disclosed these developments during a press briefing held on Thursday.

Details of the Robbery Incident

According to COP Donkor, the incident occurred on December 2, 2025. On that day, the suspects, along with other accomplices armed with weapons, launched a coordinated attack on several locations in Nkaseim. The assailants blocked the Goaso-Tepa Road and simultaneously targeted the Nkaseim Police Station, Adwumapa Cocoa Buying Company, Kobby Gold Buying Company, and the Asutifi Rural Bank.

During the brazen attack, the perpetrators stole two AK47 service rifles from the police station. Additionally, they made away with significant amounts of cash, including GHC14,000 from the cocoa buying company and GHC12,000 from the gold buying company. Tragically, an employee of the Adwumapa Cocoa Buying Company sustained gunshot injuries during the robbery.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigations

The arrests were made possible through sustained intelligence gathering and forensic investigations conducted by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Ghana Police Service. On January 16, 2026, Mutar Kofi, a commercial tricycle rider, was apprehended at a location near Nkaseim known as “Ata ne Ata.” During interrogation, he admitted to his involvement in the robbery.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Mahamadu Sagio, an illegal miner residing in Nkaseim. Subsequently, Shaibu Issah Jallo, a trader from Chereponi; Abdul Suleman, a herdsman from Tanga near Karaga in the Northern Region; and Bukari Sulley, a trader from Alabar in Kumasi, were also taken into custody for their alleged roles in the crime.

 Pursuit of Additional Suspects

While these arrests mark a significant breakthrough in the case, efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals connected to the robbery. COP Donkor revealed that law enforcement authorities are actively pursuing a suspect identified as Hoyeefi, believed to be the gang leader and in possession of the stolen weapons and other firearms used during the attack. Two additional suspects, identified as Dauda and Mohammed Ali, are also on the run.

The police have assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to bring these fugitives to justice and recover the stolen items.

 A Call for Public Vigilance

In her address, COP Donkor emphasized the importance of public cooperation and vigilance in combating crime. She urged citizens to prioritize their personal security and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies to help mitigate criminal activities.

The Ghana Police Service continues to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring public safety and upholding the rule of law. The recent arrests serve as a testament to their dedication to maintaining peace and security across the country.
