In a deeply saddening turn of events, a police officer has tragically lost his life following an armed robbery attack along the Zebilla–Widnaba road in the Upper East Region of Ghana. This unfortunate incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, February 8, 2026, around 8 PM, leaving the community in shock and grief.
According to reports, two police officers were traveling from Widnaba towards Zebilla when they encountered what appeared to be an ongoing armed robbery incident along the road. Upon noticing the officers, the suspected robbers opened fire, critically injuring one of the officers.
The injured officer, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, was promptly rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital by a police response team that arrived after receiving a distress call. Tragically, despite the swift efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The Upper East Regional Police Command has issued an official statement addressing this grave incident. The statement confirmed that a comprehensive investigation has been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding the attack. Additionally, a special operation is underway to track down and apprehend all individuals involved in this heinous crime.
