In a significant development, an Accra Circuit Court has remanded five individuals into police custody for their alleged involvement in a daring robbery incident at Nkaseim. The accused, identified as Mahamadu Sagio (alias Jibo), Mutar Kofi, Shaibu Issah, Abdul Suleman, and Abukari Sulley (alias Taylor), face charges of conspiracy to rob several institutions, including the Nkaseim Police Station, a gold buying company, and a cocoa buying company. The robbery reportedly left one individual injured.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and have been ordered by the court to reappear on February 19, 2026. Meanwhile, three alleged accomplices—Dauda, Mohammed Ali, and the purported gang leader Hoyeefi—remain at large, with law enforcement intensifying efforts to apprehend them.

 Details of the Incident

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Issah Achiburi provided a detailed account of the incident during the court proceedings. According to ASP Achiburi, the robbery occurred on December 2, 2025. The accused, armed with pump-action guns and an AK47 rifle, launched a coordinated attack on the Nkaseim Police Station and two private institutions: Adwumapa Cocoa Buying Company and Kobby Gold Buying Company. The operation involved approximately 12 individuals.

The criminals executed their plan with precision, blocking the Gaso-Tepa road to hinder access while simultaneously targeting the institutions. Amid sporadic gunfire, the suspects made away with two AK47 rifles, two magazines loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition each, and significant sums of money: 150,414 Ghana cedis from Asutifi Rural Bank, 12,000 Ghana cedis from the gold buying company, and 14,000 Ghana cedis from the cocoa buying company.

Tragically, Gershon Oppong, an employee of Adwumapa Cocoa Buying Company, sustained gunshot injuries during the robbery. He was treated and discharged from St. Elizabeth Catholic Hospital in Hwidiem.

 Investigation and Arrests

The police investigation unveiled a complex web of planning and execution. ASP Achiburi revealed that Sagio is an illegal miner residing in Nkaseim, Mutar is a commercial tricycle rider from the same area, Jallo is a cattle trader residing in Chereponi, Suleman resides in Tanga near Karaga in the Northern Region, and Sulley is also a cattle trader based in Alabar, Kumasi.

The investigation began with the arrest of Mutar Kofi at Nkaseim. During his caution statement, Mutar admitted to his involvement in the crime and disclosed that Sagio and his brother Hoyeefi had recruited him. Mutar reportedly used his tricycle to transport the suspects during their surveillance activities.

Mutar's cooperation led to the subsequent arrest of Sagio, who corroborated Mutar's account and disclosed that the stolen weapons were in Hoyeefi’s possession. Sustained intelligence operations then resulted in the arrest of Jallo at Chereponi. Jallo confessed to his role in the robbery and implicated Sulley as an accomplice. Sulley was later apprehended at Alabar in Kumasi. Additionally, Sagio identified Suleman as his brother and another participant in the crime. Suleman was arrested at Tanga near Karaga.

The Role of Planning and Recruitment

According to ASP Achiburi, investigations revealed that in November 2025, Hoyeefi masterminded the plan by convincing Sagio to monitor the Nkaseim Police Station and relay critical information about its operations. Hoyeefi subsequently recruited other accomplices, including Suleman, Sulley, Dauda, and Ali. The group then executed their meticulously planned attack.

 Evidence and Ongoing Efforts

CCTV footage retrieved from Asutifi Rural Bank has been instrumental in aiding investigations. The police continue their efforts to track down the remaining suspects—Dauda, Mohammed Ali, and Hoyeefi—who are currently at large.

Next Steps

The case has been adjourned to facilitate further investigations and ensure fair proceedings. Notably, the court has indicated that a Moshi interpreter will be secured for future hearings as the accused are of Fulani descent.

This incident underscores the importance of heightened security measures and community vigilance to deter criminal activities. The authorities remain committed to ensuring justice is served and restoring a sense of safety to the affected communities.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing case as law enforcement continues its pursuit of justice for the victims of this heinous crime.
