In a significant development in the realm of cybercrime enforcement, the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team under the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has arrested a 23-year-old student for allegedly publishing obscene content online. The suspect, identified as Nhyira Papa Kojo Egyir Hayford, faces charges under Section 280 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

According to an official statement from the Ghana Police Service, the arrest followed routine cyber patrols conducted on Friday, February 27, 2026. During these operations, the team uncovered explicit videos involving the suspect, which had been widely circulated on social media. The videos were reportedly posted on a public Snapchat account with the username @biggforddd123. Investigations revealed that the recordings featured multiple women and were made between 2023 and January 26, 2026.

Upon being invited for questioning, the suspect admitted to uploading the videos on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. He claimed that his actions were part of a response to a TikTok challenge referred to as “Anti Shakira’s.” Additionally, the suspect disclosed that he had recorded another explicit video in 2023 and sold it to an individual in the United States, identified as Naya, for $600—an amount he stated was equivalent to approximately GH¢6,500 at that time.

As part of the ongoing investigation, one of the individuals featured in the videos, identified as Ms. Portia Ampofo, was also invited by the Police to assist with inquiries. Following preliminary investigations, the case was transferred to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters for further examination.

The suspect was later granted enquiry bail on Thursday evening while investigations continue. The Police have assured the public that they are committed to pursuing this case to its logical conclusion.

In light of this incident, the Ghana Police Service has issued a strong warning to members of the public regarding the posting of obscene and related materials online. They emphasized that such actions constitute criminal offences under Ghanaian law and attract severe consequences. The Police further reiterated their commitment to monitoring online platforms to ensure that the internet remains a safe space for all citizens.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible online behavior and adherence to legal standards in cyberspace. Authorities continue to urge individuals to exercise caution when engaging with digital platforms and refrain from activities that could contravene the law or jeopardize public decency.
