In a deeply unsettling incident that has left the residents of Abofrem in the Atwima Mponua District of Ghana's Ashanti Region in shock, a pastor has been arrested for allegedly attempting to bury a five-month-old baby alive. The suspect, Richmond Akwasi Frimpong, is the Head Pastor of the Anointed Grace Prayer Ministry located at Kuffour Camp.
According to reports, the incident occurred late at night around 11 p.m. at a local refuse dump. Eyewitness accounts suggest that Pastor Frimpong, along with an accomplice, was acting suspiciously when they were spotted carrying the infant. One eyewitness, Winfred Agbah, noticed unusual activity and decided to intervene. Upon closer inspection, he discovered that the baby was still alive and appeared to be on the brink of being buried.
Mr. Agbah’s swift actions prevented what could have been a tragic outcome. He raised an alarm, drawing attention to the situation and prompting immediate intervention from concerned residents. The baby girl, who was found alive and in distress, was quickly transported to a government hospital, where she is currently receiving medical care.
Further details have emerged from the Chief Linguist of Abofrem, Nana Yaw Badu, who disclosed that Pastor Frimpong had earlier informed him that the baby was deceased. Based on this claim, burial arrangements were reportedly discussed. However, Nana Badu stated that he was unaware the child was still alive at the time.
The Ghana Police Service has since taken swift action by arresting Pastor Frimpong and his alleged accomplice. Both individuals are currently in custody and are assisting law enforcement authorities with ongoing investigations into the matter.
This incident has sparked outrage and concern among residents and beyond, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the pastor's actions and the wellbeing of the infant prior to this harrowing event. The community is now looking to authorities to ensure that justice is served and that such an incident does not occur again.
The baby’s condition remains under close monitoring at the hospital, while the investigation continues to uncover the full details of this deeply troubling case.
This story serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and swift action in protecting vulnerable members of society. It also underscores the importance of community intervention in preventing potential tragedies. The public awaits further updates as investigations proceed.
