In a significant development, the Upper West Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended two suspects in connection with an armed robbery incident that occurred on the Tumu-Kowie road in the Sissala East District. The arrest marks a critical step in addressing rising concerns over criminal activities in the region.
According to an official statement issued by the Command on Monday, June 1, 2026, the suspects, identified as Seidu Muizu, aged 20, and Salifu Mutada, aged 22, were allegedly involved in a robbery on May 30, 2026. During the attack, three individuals were reportedly robbed at gunpoint, and an unregistered Apsonic motorbike was stolen.
The swift action of the police, backed by intelligence operations, led to the capture of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen motorbike. In addition to the stolen Apsonic motorbike, authorities also retrieved another unregistered Loujia motorbike. Investigators suspect this second motorbike was utilized during the commission of the crime. Both motorbikes have been impounded to aid ongoing investigations.
Preliminary findings suggest that the suspects may be linked to a series of robbery incidents reported in Tumu and its surrounding communities. This revelation has raised concerns about the broader implications of their activities and whether they were part of a larger criminal network operating in the area.
The Upper West Regional Police Command assured the public that investigations are actively underway to establish whether the suspects have been involved in other criminal activities within the district. Efforts to recover the firearm allegedly used during the robbery are also being pursued.
Deputy Upper West Regional Police Commander, ACP Peter Kamasa, expressed gratitude to residents for their cooperation with law enforcement authorities. He emphasized the importance of community engagement in combating crime and appealed to the public to continue sharing information that could assist in preventing such incidents in the future.
The two suspects currently remain in police custody and are reportedly assisting investigators with their inquiries. The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice is served and maintaining peace and security in the region.
This case serves as a reminder of the critical role that collaboration between law enforcement agencies and local communities plays in addressing criminal activities effectively. As investigations continue, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
