The Ofaakor Circuit Court in Kasoa witnessed a dramatic and unexpected incident on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, as two suspects involved in an alleged human trafficking case collapsed during court proceedings. The unsettling event momentarily disrupted the hearing, drawing attention to the emotional and physical toll of the ongoing trial.

Collapse of Suspects During Proceedings

The first suspect reportedly lost consciousness while the prosecution was presenting its case, detailing allegations surrounding a human trafficking operation that involved five children. Shortly afterward, a second suspect also collapsed upon hearing the court's decision to remand all six accused persons into custody until further notice. The courtroom was thrown into brief disarray as medical assistance was sought for the affected individuals.

 Allegations and Legal Proceedings

The six accused persons — Janet Larbie, Mary Dotse, Yvonne Twumasi, Sikena Umar, Grace Afriyie, and Regina Agyeiwaa — are facing serious allegations related to human trafficking activities. According to the prosecution, three of the children involved in the case are alive, while tragically, two have died. It is important to note that these allegations remain unproven at this stage of the legal process.

Lawyers representing the accused made an appeal for bail, citing concerns for their clients’ well-being. However, the court declined their application and upheld the decision to remand all six individuals into custody. The case has been adjourned to June 8, 2026, for further hearing.

 New Witnesses Emerge

In a significant development, Senior Prosecutor ASP Thomas Sarfo revealed that additional witnesses have come forward to provide crucial information for the case. Among these new witnesses are a mortuary staff member from Trust Mother and Child Hospital and the husband of one of the accused persons. Their testimonies are expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the investigation and strengthening the prosecution's case.

Ongoing Investigations

Prosecutors are continuing their efforts to gather evidence and build a comprehensive case against the accused individuals. The emergence of new witnesses underscores the complexity of the investigation and highlights the importance of corroborative testimonies in cases of this nature.

 Looking Ahead

As the trial resumes on June 8, 2026, all eyes will be on the Ofaakor Circuit Court as it deliberates over this high-profile case. The proceedings have raised significant concerns about human trafficking in Ghana and the devastating impact such crimes have on vulnerable individuals, particularly children.

The collapse of suspects during court proceedings serves as a stark reminder of the gravity of the situation for all parties involved. As investigations continue and evidence is presented, justice must remain the guiding principle in addressing this deeply troubling case.
