In a recent development from the High Court in Accra, the hearing of Salomey Baffoe’s bail application has been postponed to September 24. This decision follows the prosecution's request for additional time to adequately respond to the defence’s application.
Ms. Baffoe is currently embroiled in a legal case involving allegations of abetting the dissemination of false information, a matter connected to social media personality Ghana Jollof. The case has drawn considerable attention, with Accra-based Citi News providing updates on the proceedings.
During the court session, Assistant State Attorney Carl Afedzi Forson represented the prosecution. He informed the court that he was not the primary attorney assigned to this case and only became aware of the bail application when it was received by the Attorney-General’s Office on the preceding Friday. Mr. Forson highlighted that due to a public holiday on Monday, the application had not been assigned to a specific lawyer within their office, prompting their request for a brief adjournment to prepare a comprehensive response.
This request, however, met with opposition from the defence counsel, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah. Mr. Awuah emphasized the importance of urgency in matters concerning his client's liberty. He argued that the State had been duly served with the application and had not indicated any insufficiencies in its service. Furthermore, he pointed out that bail applications, particularly those involving personal liberty, are often addressed even during weekends, underscoring that any extension for the State's response should be avoided.
Mr. Awuah cautioned that prolonging the process could potentially defeat the purpose of the bail application, as Ms. Baffoe might spend nearly the entire two-week remand period in custody before any response is filed by the prosecution.

In its ruling, the court acknowledged the critical nature of the applicant's liberty and underscored that such matters cannot be handled with levity by the State. Consequently, the court adjourned proceedings to September 24, directing the Republic to file all necessary documents and serve them by 9:00 a.m. on that date.
This adjournment indicates that the High Court will first review the prosecution's response before deciding on Ms. Baffoe’s request for bail. The case continues to evolve as both sides prepare for what promises to be a significant legal determination regarding personal liberty and due process within the judicial system.
