The collapse of a steel bridge linking Adidome and Juapong in the North Tongu and Central Tongu Districts of the Volta Region has raised concerns about the potential disruption of commercial and economic activities for residents in the area.

The incident occurred on Thursday night when a truck loaded with salt attempted to cross the bridge, leading to its collapse. Despite prior warnings about the weakened state of the bridge, some heavy trucks continue to use the route, exacerbating its condition.

An assembly member for the Mafi Dove electoral area, speaking to Citi News after the incident, highlighted the inadequacy of the warning signpost, stating that it is too small and easily overlooked by drivers.

As a result of the bridge collapse, vehicles are unable to use the affected route and must seek alternative paths for transportation.

The situation underscores the urgent need for attention to infrastructure maintenance and the implementation of effective measures to ensure the safety of transportation routes in the region. It also serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of neglecting infrastructure warnings and regulations.

Local authorities and relevant stakeholders are urged to take swift action to address the bridge collapse and prevent further disruptions to vital transportation links in the area. It is imperative that measures are put in place to safeguard the safety and accessibility of crucial infrastructure for the benefit of residents and businesses in the North Tongu and Central Tongu Districts.
