We are deeply saddened to report on a tragic incident that occurred in Wasa Asuogya Krobo, where a 26-year-old galamsey operator, Benard Nti, lost his life in an attack by suspected armed robbers. The unfortunate event took place as Nti, accompanied by two Chinese illegal miners, was transporting gold to a refinery in a Toyota pickup. It was during this journey that they were ambushed by assailants, resulting in the loss of Nti's life.
The assailants, riding a motorbike, targeted the group and tragically fatally shot Benard Nti in the head using a pump-action gun and a pistol. Despite this harrowing ordeal, the two Chinese miners and the driver were able to escape the attack unharmed. Following this devastating incident, the deceased's body has been taken to the Wasa Akropong government hospital mortuary, where it awaits autopsy.
This distressing event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers and risks faced by individuals involved in the mining industry, particularly in areas where illegal mining activities are prevalent. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Benard Nti during this difficult time.
As the authorities continue their investigations into this tragic incident, we hope that measures will be taken to ensure the safety and security of individuals involved in mining activities, and that those responsible for this heinous act are swiftly brought to justice.
