We are deeply saddened to report the tragic loss of Police Constable Prince Amoah, who passed away while on duty in the Aowin Municipality of the Western Region. Constable Amoah, along with three other officers, was involved in a pursuit of suspected drug carriers when their patrol car submerged in an abandoned mining pit.
The remaining officers, Constable Martha Ansah, Constable Bright Adinkrah, and service driver Corporal Frederick Cobbinah, were thankfully rescued from the pit. However, despite the efforts of residents to assist in the rescue, Constable Amoah had already succumbed to his injuries.
The pursuit began when the officers received information about three motorbikes carrying suspicious bag-packs believed to contain drugs. As the motorbikes failed to stop at a checkpoint, the patrol team initiated a chase, leading to the tragic incident at an improvised wooden bridge near the abandoned mining pit.
Following the incident, the damaged patrol vehicle and missing service rifles were successfully recovered and secured. The Enchi District Police Commander, along with other law enforcement officials, visited the scene to assess the situation. Additionally, the Regional Commander and the Regional Crime Officer inspected the rescued victims at Samatex Hospital.
This heartbreaking event occurred during the team's routine mobile patrols, as they were assigned to assist personnel from the Omanpe police station in covering a special inter-school sports and gala competition at Kwawu.
The police have since commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident, aiming to determine the actual cause of Constable Prince Amoah's tragic death.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of Constable Prince Amoah during this difficult time. We honor his dedication and sacrifice in the line of duty.
