One person killed and five injured in sporadic gunfire incident in Bawku

We are deeply saddened to report on a tragic incident that occurred in Bawku, Upper East region, where an individual lost his life and five others sustained injuries in a sporadic shooting. The incident took place around Zongo near the Bawku Police Station at approximately 12:30pm on Wednesday, as confirmed by police sources.


The deceased has been identified as Musah Seidu, aged 60, who tragically succumbed to a severe chest injury caused by gunfire. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.


The injured individuals include Firdaus Abdulai (17), Sumaila Munira (38), Amidu Bugri (40), Bukari Seidu (50), and Kamal Sadat (19). Firdaus and Munira are currently receiving treatment at the Vineyard Hospital, while the remaining three individuals are being cared for at the Presbyterian Hospital.


At present, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. We urge the community to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.


In accordance with Islamic traditions, Musah has been released to his family and laid to rest. Our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless act of violence, and we hope for a swift recovery for the injured individuals.
