In 2014, Ghanaian Hiplife musician, Kwaw Kese, found himself at the center of a controversial arrest by the Ghana Police Service. Accused of smoking marijuana in public, Kwaw Kese asserts that his arrest was unjust and lacked substantial evidence. In a recent interview on Hitz FM, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the treatment he received from the police, citing a lack of fairness in their actions.

According to Kwaw Kese, he possesses evidence that implicates foreign nationals who openly smoke in public with the protection of the police. This stark contrast in treatment has led him to seek justice for the ordeal he endured. He has announced his intention to pursue a compensation claim of $1 million from the Ghana Police Service in response to his arrest and subsequent conviction in 2015.

Reflecting on his experience, Kwaw Kese emphasized that there was no tangible proof to support the allegations against him. He highlighted the disparity in treatment between himself and foreign nationals, underscoring his belief that the Ghana Police Service failed to uphold fairness and justice in his case.

The musician's resolve to seek compensation stems from the conviction that he was unjustly subjected to a distressing ordeal during his time in police custody. As an artist dedicated to bringing joy to his fans through his music, Kwaw Kese feels that he did not deserve the treatment he received.

In 2014, Kwaw Kese's arrest for alleged cannabis use led to a legal battle that culminated in a one-day jail sentence and a fine of Gh¢1,200 imposed by High Court judge William Boampong in April 2015. Prior to this, the musician had spent over a month on remand at the Kumasi Central Prison before being granted bail on December 30, 2014.

Notably, Kwaw Kese also raised concerns during the Year of Return in 2020 when Jamaican musician Popcaan was observed publicly smoking what appeared to be marijuana during his visit to Ghana, without facing any repercussions from the authorities.

As Kwaw Kese continues to seek justice for the treatment he endured, his determination to hold the Ghana Police Service accountable remains unwavering. His pursuit of fairness and equity serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the principles of justice and equality under the law.

The case of Kwaw Kese prompts us to reflect on the fundamental principles of justice within our society and the need for equitable treatment under the law. It underscores the significance of addressing instances where individuals feel that they have been unfairly treated by the institutions entrusted with upholding justice.

As this story unfolds, it serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing pursuit of justice and fairness within our legal system. Kwaw Kese's quest for justice resonates with many who have faced similar challenges, and it underscores the imperative of ensuring that justice is administered impartially and equitably for all.
