We are witnessing a disturbing clash between angry youth at Awutu Prison Junction and military and police officers over a contentious 11-acre piece of land in the suburb of Kasoa, within the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

Reports indicate that the soldiers involved in the altercation are believed to have originated from the Jubilee House. The source of the conflict stems from a search report issued by the Lands Commission, which revealed that a portion of the disputed land belongs to a developer, while another portion is attributed to an individual known as Benlord Ababio, also recognized as Nana Barimah in his private capacity.

Following a heated confrontation with the police, Benlord Ababio asserted that he had purchased the litigated parcel of land in 2008. He further stated that the developer had approached him with an offer to sell a section of the land, which he declined. Subsequently, the developer, accompanied by police officers, allegedly encroached on the land, leading to Benlord Ababio's decision to instigate legal action resulting in an arrest.

The situation escalated on Tuesday, February 13, when the developer, accompanied by military and police officers purportedly from the Jubilee House, once again encroached on the land. This prompted the irate local youth to engage in a heated argument with the officers regarding the ownership of the land.

In response to these events, Alhaji Mohammed Musuh, a relative of Nana Barimah, expressed concern over the utilization of uniformed personnel from the Jubilee House for personal operations. He emphasized that such actions are detrimental to the reputation of the government's seat of power.

It is essential to note that police personnel from the Central East Regional Police Command swiftly intervened to restore calm following the initial altercation.

The unfolding situation at Awutu Prison Junction serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and sensitivities surrounding land ownership and disputes. It is imperative for all parties involved to seek amicable and lawful resolutions to prevent further escalation of tensions and uphold the rule of law.

As developments continue to unfold, it is crucial for all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue and adherence to legal processes in addressing this contentious issue. The resolution of this conflict will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for the community and underscores the importance of peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms.
