Tension is currently gripping the Fise community, near Amasaman, in the Ga North Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, as reports of an alleged secret installation of a parallel chief by the chief of Sempe, also in Accra, have surfaced. This has led to a heavy security presence in the area, causing fear and panic among the residents.
According to reports, the new chief, hailing from the Akutsemaa family of Fise, was purportedly installed at Sempe on Friday, February 9, 2024. Plans for a grand entry into the Fise community on Sunday, February 11, 2024, were thwarted by the enraged youth and elders of Fise, along with armed police.
Addressing an emergency press conference at Fise, Asafoatse Yaw Mensah Dekpe, leading the agitated youth, emphasized that there is an existing chief who was installed to succeed the late chief, Nii Fisher I. They expressed that the Fise community does not fall under the jurisdiction of Sempe and vehemently opposed the installation of a parallel chief in their community.
The Chief of Fise, Nii Darko First-Quao, confirmed the report and urged the residents to remain calm and refrain from any destructive actions. He called upon the Ga Traditional Council and the Elders of the Otublohum Traditional Council to intervene and address the situation before it escalates further.
It is evident that tensions are running high in the Fise community, and there is a palpable fear of potential conflict and unrest. The presence of heavy security indicates the seriousness of the situation and the need for immediate resolution.
The underlying issue of jurisdiction and traditional authority must be addressed through dialogue and adherence to established customs and protocols. It is imperative for all parties involved to seek an amicable resolution to prevent any further escalation of tensions.
The developments in Fise serve as a reminder of the significance of traditional leadership and the need for clear delineation of authority within traditional jurisdictions. It is essential for all stakeholders to prioritize peace and unity within the community.
As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for authorities to engage in constructive dialogue and work towards a peaceful resolution that respects the traditions and customs of the Fise community. The preservation of peace and stability should be paramount in resolving this delicate matter.
