We are deeply saddened to report on a distressing incident that occurred at the Church of Pentecost in Asante Akyem Agogo, Ashanti region. On Sunday, March 24, 2024, during a naming ceremony, a 16-year-old girl, Emelia Yendulom, allegedly stole a baby from the church premises, leaving the parents in a state of despair.

Emelia reportedly deceived the baby's grandmother into handing over the infant by claiming that the mother needed to breastfeed him. Subsequently, she vanished with the child, taking him to her family house in Agogo Zongo and falsely asserting that she was the mother.

However, suspicions arose among Emelia's family members due to her history of mental health issues and ongoing treatment at a prayer camp in Ananekrom. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that Emelia had misrepresented herself, prompting her family to take her and the baby to the police station, where she was subsequently arrested.

The mother of the stolen child had already filed a complaint at the police station, and upon verification, it was established that the baby indeed belonged to her. The police have revealed that Emelia has a history of chronic baby theft but are unable to pursue legal action against her due to her mental health condition.

Meanwhile, both the suspect and the grandmother of the baby are cooperating with the authorities as they conduct their investigation into this troubling incident.

This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of children and the importance of remaining vigilant in safeguarding their well-being. Our thoughts are with the affected family during this difficult time.
