The Ayensuano District Court has recently issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Gertrude Oppong, who has failed to appear before the court on two occasions as ordered. This comes in the midst of a trial in which she is facing allegations of making derogatory statements against the overlord of the Akyem Abuakwa State, as well as labeling the Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin and the Okyeman Land Protection Taskforce as a criminal gang.

The accused, Gertrude Oppong, is alleged to have made these remarks during a press conference on behalf of approximately 20 communities, expressing their dissatisfaction over the alleged seizure of their farmlands and the destruction of about 6,000 acres of farms by the Okyeman Land Protection Taskforce.

Gertrude Oppong is facing four counts, including offensive conduct and offensive conduct to the breach of peace. She has been ordered to reappear before the court on April 18, 2024. However, her failure to appear has led to the issuance of a bench warrant for her arrest by the court.

Counsel for the complainant, Prince Frederick Nii Ashie Neequaye, has stated that today's hearing could not proceed due to Gertrude Oppong's absence. The case has been adjourned to April 18, 2024, and he further advised the public to refrain from insulting persons in authority.

"It is libelous or defamatory to insult persons in authority without provocation, and I will advise such persons to desist from that because if you are grabbed by the long arms of the law, the law will deal with you, and it is important that people respect others," he said.

It is crucial for individuals to adhere to legal proceedings and show respect for others, especially those in positions of authority. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have implications for how individuals express their grievances and criticisms in the public domain. As such, it serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible and respectful communication within our society.
