We recently witnessed a significant development in the judicial system as a 29-year-old bathroom attendant, Issahaku Ibrahim, was convicted of robbery and sentenced to 15 years of hard labour imprisonment by the Accra Circuit Court.

Ibrahim, initially pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of a firearm without authority, causing unlawful harm to Arafat Sanah, and robbery. However, after a thorough trial, he was found guilty of the aforementioned offenses.

The presiding judge, Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah, acquitted Ibrahim of the firearm possession charge but sentenced him to two years for causing harm and 15 years for the robbery. It is important to note that the judge ordered these sentences to run concurrently.

The court heard that on May 22, 2023, Ibrahim and nine others armed with locally manufactured pistols attacked the complainant, Arafat Sanah, while he was selling phones in front of Yam Market in Accra. They inflicted multiple cuts on him and forcibly took possession of ten assorted phones of unknown value.

Fortunately, Ibrahim's attempt to flee the scene was thwarted, leading to his arrest with the help of bystanders. The police subsequently recovered the weapon used in the robbery. Sanah, the victim, received medical attention following the incident.

During the investigation, Ibrahim failed to provide any documentation for the locally manufactured pistol, claiming that he had it for personal protection while working with scrap metals.

Following a thorough investigation, Ibrahim was charged with the aforementioned offenses and brought before the court.

This case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in criminal activities. The sentencing sends a strong message about the commitment to upholding law and order within our society. It also highlights the importance of community involvement in ensuring that perpetrators of crime are brought to justice.

It is our hope that this verdict brings a sense of closure to the victim and serves as a deterrent to others who may contemplate similar actions. The rule of law must prevail, and those who seek to undermine it will be held accountable for their actions.
