The Human Rights division of the High Court has recently adjourned the case involving Charles Bissue, the former secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), and the Office of the Special Prosecutor. The adjournment, scheduled for April 17, 2024, is due to the case not being assigned to a new judge following the retirement of Justice Nicholas Abodakpi, who previously presided over the matter.

This development comes after the initial adjournment on February 21, where similar concerns led to a delay in proceedings. During the court appearance on Monday, March 11, it was revealed that a new judge had not yet been assigned to the case.

The case centers around a judicial review application filed by Charles Bissue. The application seeks to quash an arrest warrant issued against him by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, nullify a notice declaring him wanted by the office, and prohibit the anti-graft body from making further arrests pending the resolution of the matter.

As the legal proceedings continue, both parties involved await the assignment of a new judge to oversee the case. The outcome of this case is eagerly anticipated by many, as it has significant implications for the actions of the Office of the Special Prosecutor and its dealings with individuals implicated in matters of alleged misconduct.

We will continue to monitor and report on any further developments as this case progresses through the judicial system.
