In recent news, a forensic examination has been conducted on the gun of Constable Smith Gyekyi, a policeman who stands accused of shooting a man at Kuntunse over an alleged transport fare dispute. This update comes from the prosecutors handling the case.
Chief Inspector Apewah Achana informed the Adabraka District Court that the Police are awaiting the forensic report before proceeding further with the case. As a result, the trial has been adjourned to October 10, 2024, under the direction of Judge Ama Adomako Kwakye.
Constable Gyekyi is currently being held for the alleged murder of Stanley Ahadzi. However, he has not yet entered a plea in court.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at approximately 4:00 am. The Police received information that a male adult had been shot at the frontage of Koans Estate at Satellite Kuntunse, near Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officials discovered the lifeless body of 25-year-old Stanley Ahadzi, with blood oozing from his head. The details provided by the prosecution allege that a dispute over transport fare escalated into a fatal altercation between Constable Gyekyi and Ahadzi.
It is reported that Constable Gyekyi, who was using his private car for commercial purposes, had picked up one Esther Owusua from Ablekuma Joma to Koans Estate, Kuntunse Satellite, around 3:00 am on the same day. Subsequently, a quarrel ensued between Gyekyi and Ahadzi after Owusua got lost and contacted Ahadzi for assistance.
During this altercation, it is alleged that Constable Gyekyi resorted to using his sidearm, ultimately resulting in the tragic death of Ahadzi. Following the incident, Gyekyi voluntarily reported himself to the Amasaman Divisional Police and was subsequently detained.
As the case unfolds, it is crucial to await the findings of the forensic report and allow due process to take its course. The gravity of this situation underscores the importance of a thorough and impartial investigation.
It is imperative to respect the legal proceedings and allow justice to prevail as all relevant evidence is carefully considered. Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of Stanley Ahadzi during this difficult time.
We will continue to monitor this case as it develops and provide updates as new information becomes available.
