We are deeply saddened to report the tragic and untimely death of the Chief Priest of Ngleshie Alata, Nii Ayitey Konko V, in a chieftaincy dispute that has shaken the community of Jamestown, Accra. The incident, which took place last Friday at approximately 7:30 p.m., saw Nii Ayitey Konko V fall victim to unknown assailants in a cold-blooded act of violence.

Addressing the media in Accra on Monday, the Dzaatsese of Ngleshie Alata, Nii Okojaman, lamented the devastating loss of Nii Ayitey Konko V and paid tribute to his decade-long service to the community. Describing the late chief priest as a dedicated and integral member of the community, Nii Okojaman expressed deep sorrow over the circumstances leading to the murder.

It is deeply concerning to note that despite escalating threats and intimidation directed at Nii Ayitey Konko V following the passing of Oblempong Kojo Ababio V, little to no protective measures were taken by the Ghana Police Service. The opposing faction's alleged use of thugs and land guards to terrorize the chief priest was a matter of concern that had been reported to the authorities on numerous occasions.

Shockingly, it has been revealed that Nii Ayitey Konko V had formally sought police protection by filing a detailed report on August 29, 2024, but no action was taken prior to his tragic demise. Furthermore, a meeting convened by the Regional Coordinating Council, chaired by the Regional Minister, to address concerns surrounding the late chief priest's safety did not result in the necessary intervention.

Of particular concern is the alleged inaction of Commander Arhin, the Regional Police Commander, who reportedly failed to act on Nii Ayitey Konko's formal complaint and instead showed support for the opposing faction. This failure to address the threats against the chief priest despite formal complaints and petitions raises serious questions about the duty of care owed to community leaders by law enforcement authorities.

In light of these troubling revelations, we join Nii Okojaman in urging the President of Ghana to intervene immediately to ensure the arrest of those responsible for Nii Ayitey Konko's murder. Additionally, a thorough investigation into Commander Arhin's alleged inaction is warranted, and we call upon the Regional Minister to address this matter with the urgency it demands.

It is imperative that justice is served for Nii Ayitey Konko V and that measures are put in place to prevent such tragic events from recurring in our communities. We stand in solidarity with the Ngleshie Alata community and echo the sentiments expressed by Nii Okojaman: we will not be intimidated, and those responsible must be brought to account for their actions.
