We have received news that the Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has taken decisive action to address the security situation in Alavanyo and Nkonya Townships and their environs in the Oti Region. By Executive Instrument, the Minister has renewed the curfew hours in the area, with the new hours set from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, effective Sunday, March 1, 2024.

This decision comes in the wake of renewed clashes in the area, which tragically led to the loss of lives. The statement issued by the Ministry emphasizes the government's appreciation for the efforts of the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area in maintaining peace. It also urges them to utilize established mechanisms for conflict resolution.

Furthermore, the statement reiterates that there is a ban on carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in the two towns and their environs. Any individual found in possession of such items will face arrest and prosecution.

It is evident that the government is prioritizing the restoration of peace and security in the affected area. This renewed curfew serves as a proactive measure to safeguard lives and prevent further violence. It is a reminder of the collective responsibility we all share in upholding peace within our communities.

As we move forward, it is crucial for all stakeholders to actively engage in dialogue and pursue peaceful means of resolving conflicts. The preservation of life and property should remain paramount, and we must work together towards sustainable peace and development.

We extend our deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones in the recent unrest and urge all parties to embrace peace and reconciliation. Let us stand united in our commitment to a harmonious and secure environment for all.
