The Krisan Camp Police in the Ellembelle district of the Western region are currently conducting a manhunt for a 54-year-old fisherman, Kojo Ndede, who has been accused of defiling a 14-year-old girl and impregnating her.

The distressing incident took place in Eikwe, a community in the Ellembelle district where the victim’s parents reside. It is reported that the suspect, who had been living in the same house as the victim’s parents while on a fishing expedition, took advantage of the absence of the victim’s parents to commit the heinous act.

The Ellembelle District Social Welfare Officer, Jonas Kabutey, revealed that the victim’s pregnancy was initially detected by the headmistress of her school. Due to her small stature, the parents were unable to discern the pregnancy. The victim's psychological well-being has been significantly affected, resulting in a decline in her academic performance.

The father of the victim, Kwaku Annor, expressed his dismay over the situation and confirmed that an official complaint has been lodged with the police. He disclosed that the suspect had been given accommodation in their home to facilitate his fishing activities while he was from a different community. The family had left their child in the care of a sibling while they attended a funeral, providing the suspect with an opportunity to commit the offense.

Jonas Kabutey emphasized the need for such cases to be reported to the police rather than being handled within the confines of the home. He also highlighted the prevalence of such incidents in the district and stressed the importance of relocating the victim to prevent stigmatization.

This alarming case underscores the urgency of addressing issues related to child protection and the need for communities to prioritize reporting such offenses to the appropriate authorities. It is imperative for society to come together to support and protect victims of abuse, and for perpetrators to be held accountable for their actions.
