We have received news that the brother-in-law of the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Francis Kwaku Arhin, has been discharged by the High Court in Accra. This development comes after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) dropped the charge of misusing public office for personal profit against him.

Additionally, the former PPA boss, Adjenim Boateng Adjei, who was also facing 17 counts of charges, has been discharged in that case as well. However, unlike Francis Kwaku Arhin, Adjenim Boateng Adjei will be facing fresh charges later in the day.

During the court proceedings on Monday, April 22, Adelaide Obiri Wood, a Principal Prosecutor from the OSP, stated that they do not intend to proceed with the case against Francis Kwaku Arhin after further investigations. As a result, they have filed a fresh charge sheet with only Adjenim Boateng Adjei as the accused.

Kwame Acheampong Boateng, Counsel for the former PPA boss, expressed disappointment at the turn of events, especially after having started the trial nearly two years ago. However, the Court presided over by Justice Mary Yanzuh, upon listening to the parties, struck out the case as withdrawn and discharged the accused persons.

It is worth noting that the OSP initiated this action following an investigation conducted by Investigative Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni titled ‘Contract for Sale.’

As the legal proceedings unfold, Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei is expected to answer the fresh charges against him by the OSP later this morning before the Criminal Court 2.

This development marks a significant point in this legal case, which has been ongoing for a year and 11 months since it was filed on May 18, 2022. We will continue to monitor and report on any further developments as they unfold.
