The District Court at Kasoa Akweley has recently granted bail to the embattled Benson Nana Yaw Oduro, widely known as Funny Face, in the sum of GHc120k. In addition to the bail sum, he has been directed by the presiding judge, Annie Adobor, to provide two sureties.
Funny Face is currently facing charges of careless and inconsiderate driving, as well as two counts of negligently causing harm. At this stage, his plea on the charges has not been taken as investigations are still ongoing. He is expected to reappear in court on May 10.
The comedian and actor was initially arraigned on March 26 and remanded for two weeks until Tuesday, April 9, when he was eventually granted bail. The arrest of Funny Face occurred on the evening of Sunday, March 24, following an incident where he hit four people with his car in an accident at Kakraba, in Kasoa.
According to the brief facts of the case presented by the Prosecution led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thomas Sarfo, the case is still under investigation. ASP Sarfo previously stated that none of the victims were present in court due to their injuries and subsequent admission to medical facilities.
The incident occurred on March 24, 2024, at about 7:50 pm when Funny Face, a driver residing at Millennium City, Kasoa, was operating a Hyundai Atos Private car with registration number GN 1134-16 from Kasoa towards Nyanyano. Upon reaching a section of the road at Kakraba Junction on the Kasoa Nyanyano road, the accused person knocked down a pedestrian named Theresah Quaicoe, approximately 50 years old, and her two children, Elizabert Turkson (about 5 years old) and Robi Turkson (about one year old), who were attempting to cross the road.
Subsequently, Funny Face lost control of the steering wheel and collided head-on with a motorbike bearing registration number M-18-GR 1976 ridden by Sam Francis Kwesi Bible with a pillion rider, Nicholas Ashong. As a result of the incident, Theresa Quaicoe and Elizabeth Turkson were referred to Korle-Bu Hospital in Accra for further treatment. Nicholas Ashong was also referred to Ridge Hospital in Accra for further treatment but could not be admitted due to a shortage of beds and was subsequently brought back to Kasoa Community Clinic for further care.
The legal proceedings surrounding this case are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
