We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred at Block Factory, a suburb of East Trasacco in Accra, resulting in the untimely death of two off-duty police officers, Lance Corporal Tasiga Ngapun aka Isaac and Constable Benjamin Tindam. Our thoughts and condolences go out to their families, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

The recent development in this case sees five individuals remanded by the Achimota District Court for their alleged involvement in the murder of the two police officers. The accused individuals are Mohammed Alhassan, Ginkor Abdulai Alhassan, Alex Apoh, Bright Nana Kwame Owusu, and Ganu Iddirsu. They have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, namely murder, and two counts of murder.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Margaret Ofori Boadi, expressed concerns regarding the potential interference with police investigations if the accused were granted bail. The nature of the crime and the severity of the potential punishment were cited as reasons for their request to remand the accused individuals.

In response, Noble Adedawonu, the defence counsel, requested bail for his clients, emphasizing their readiness to stand trial and prove their innocence. The court, after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence counsel, has adjourned the matter to May 20, 2024.

The prosecution has alleged that on May 2, 2024, the accused individuals planned with others at large to commit the heinous act against the off-duty police officers. It is important to note that investigations into this matter are ongoing.

As we await further developments in this case, we urge for a fair and thorough judicial process to ensure that justice is served for the fallen officers and their loved ones. The loss of these dedicated law enforcement officers is a stark reminder of the risks they face in the line of duty.

We will continue to monitor this case and provide updates as new information becomes available. Our hearts remain heavy as we honor the memory of Lance Corporal Tasiga Ngapun and Constable Benjamin Tindam.
