We recently witnessed a distressing altercation between the security personnel of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officials, which escalated into a physical confrontation.

A video obtained by Citi News captured the tense exchange between the two groups at the Ghana Port Security and Immigration Service. According to information gathered, a group of approximately 12 GPHA security members at Meridian Port Services (MPS) reportedly entered the GIS office at MPS with the intention of apprehending two officers following a disagreement during standard vessel checks on the MSC DYMPHNA.

It has been reported that the GPHA security personnel insisted on searching the officers upon completion of their inspection duties. However, one Inspector from the GIS made it clear that while they could search the officers' bags, they were not permitted to search the individual officers. The Inspector cited that under no circumstance should a male search a female officer.

This stance led to a heated exchange of words and ultimately resulted in physical altercations between the two parties. Regrettably, the confrontation culminated in the tearing of the uniform belonging to an officer identified as AICO II Boadu.

Such incidents are concerning and highlight the importance of effective communication and conflict resolution techniques within security and law enforcement agencies. It is imperative for all personnel involved in ensuring public safety and security to handle disagreements and disputes with professionalism and adherence to established protocols.

We hope that this incident serves as a catalyst for constructive dialogue and measures to prevent similar confrontations in the future. The harmonious collaboration between the GPHA and GIS is crucial for maintaining security and orderliness within the port environment, and it is essential that all involved parties work towards amicable resolutions and mutual respect.

As we await further developments on this matter, we urge all personnel to prioritize peaceful and respectful interactions in the execution of their duties, upholding the integrity and professionalism expected of them.
