We have recently witnessed a case brought before the Accra Circuit Court, where a 50-year-old man stands accused of stealing four used fuel dispensers valued at GHC120,000.00 from the Fraga Oil Company.
The accused, Kattalist Creegbo Kosi, has denied the allegations of dishonestly appropriating the dispensers. However, the Court, presided over by Mr. Isaac Oheneba Kuffour, has taken the decision to remand him into Police custody in order to assist with ongoing investigations. He is set to reappear before the Court on May 28, 2024.
In the meantime, the Court has instructed the prosecution to provide all relevant materials to the accused prior to his next appearance, as part of due process.
According to Police Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah, the complainant, Mr. Eric Forson, is a barber, while the accused, Kattalist, is currently unemployed. It was revealed that both individuals shared a residence in Osu which is owned by the Fraga Oil Company.
The prosecution further explained that in 2022, 22 used fuel dispensers belonging to Fraga Oil were under the care of the complainant at their shared residence. However, in February 2024, the complainant noticed that one of the fuel dispensers was missing. Subsequently, during his investigation, other co-tenants informed him that the accused had taken them.
It was alleged that the accused went on to steal three more fuel dispensers and sold them to scrap dealers, resulting in a total sum of GHC120,000.00.
Furthermore, it was disclosed that Kattalist admitted to the offence in his cautionary statement, stating that he utilized the proceeds from the sale to sustain himself.
Following thorough investigation, Kattalist was subsequently arraigned for his actions.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding ethical and legal standards in all business and personal dealings. The judicial process will provide an opportunity for all relevant parties to present their case and for justice to take its course. We will continue to monitor and report on any developments regarding this matter.
