We have received reports of a recent incident at the Comet Police Station in Brekuso, located in the foothills of the Aburi Ridge in the Eastern Region. Three notorious landguards, identified as Issac Badu Agyemang, Freeman Mustapha, and Godson Tacky, were apprehended by officers of the Comet Police Station on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
These individuals, who are allegedly affiliated with the Nii Odai Ntow family of Kwabenya, were arrested for their involvement in an attack on three police officers stationed at Comet Estates. The incident took place at approximately 10:15 A.M. when the landguards attempted to forcibly release a surveyor, Emmanuel Asare, who had been invited by the police for questioning.
Emmanuel Asare, reportedly hired by members of the Nii Odai Ntow family of Kwabenya and Ashongman, was found unlawfully on land belonging to Comet Properties Company Limited, a prominent real estate developer in the region. The land in question is part of the extensive Comet Estates, which spans over 1,000 acres and was acquired by Comet Properties from Akwapim families in Brekuso in 2002.
During the confrontation, the attackers severely assaulted three police officers stationed at the Comet Police Station. However, the officers managed to subdue the assailants and take them into custody. Subsequently, the three suspects provided caution statements to the police and are expected to be transferred to the Aburi District Police Headquarters for further investigation and possible legal action.
It is important to note that the property in question is fully registered with the Lands Commission in Koforidua and falls under the jurisdiction of the Akwapim South Municipal Assembly. As such, any unlawful encroachment or dispute on the land is subject to legal scrutiny and appropriate action.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the law and respecting property rights. The authorities are committed to ensuring that justice is served and that such acts of aggression are not tolerated within our communities. We will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide updates as necessary.
In the meantime, we urge all individuals and parties involved to cooperate with the relevant authorities and adhere to legal processes in resolving any land-related disputes. It is only through peaceful and lawful means that we can uphold the integrity of property rights and foster a harmonious society.
