The recent sentencing of Isaac Andoh, a 35-year-old driver, by the Circuit Court at Tarkwa has brought attention to the issue of careless and inconsiderate driving on our roads. Presided over by Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu, the court handed down a two-day imprisonment to Andoh, along with a fine of GH¢ 2,400 or two months imprisonment in default, for his reckless actions behind the wheel.

Andoh, who pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea, was found guilty of causing a road accident due to his careless driving. The prosecuting officer, Superintendent of Police Juliana Essel-Dadzie, presented the case detailing the events that led to Andoh's conviction.

The incident occurred on April 2, 2024, at around 9:45 pm, when Andoh was driving a Manganese truck from Takoradi to Tarkwa. At the same time, the complainant, Samuel Benful, was driving a Kia Rhino loaded with marble stones from Tarkwa to Cape Coast. The collision took place at the Dompim police snap checkpoint when Andoh failed to stop as signaled by the officers on duty. This resulted in a collision with the complainant's vehicle and damage to property.

Following his arrest, Andoh admitted to the offence and cooperated with the authorities during the investigation. The involvement of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) further substantiated the findings of the police investigation.

It is imperative for drivers to adhere to road regulations and exercise caution while driving to ensure the safety of all road users. The outcome of this case serves as a reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and the importance of upholding traffic laws.

As we strive for safer roads, it is crucial for all drivers to prioritize responsible and considerate behavior behind the wheel. Let us collectively work towards creating a culture of safety and mindfulness on our roads.
