It has been established that Godwin Mawuli is over 19 years old, with his date of birth recorded as July 10, 2005.

This confirmation of the accused's age now grants the District Court the authority to preside over the matter until the duplicate case docket is forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office and advice is received for committal proceedings.

During the court proceedings on Thursday, September 19, 2024, the Magistrate, Her Worship Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi, directed police prosecutors to provide the court with a hospital report indicating the age of the accused.

Today, on Friday, September 20, 2024, the police prosecutor, Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei, confirmed that various documents including the accused’s BECE certificate, National Health Insurance card, and information on his House -2 forms at SHS, all corroborate his date of birth as July 10, 2005. He further requested the court to remand the accused person into police custody to facilitate the conclusion of their investigations. Additionally, he assured that the duplicate case docket would be forwarded to the office of the Attorney General for advice by next week.

The Magistrate emphasized that any delays in the case would not be tolerated, considering the impact on the family of the deceased. She also took the time to explain the court processes to the family and urged them to remain patient.

It is alleged that Edward Borketey Sackey was murdered by a classmate following a dispute over their respective family wealth. The case has been adjourned to October 7, 2024, for an update on the investigations.

As of now, the plea of the accused, whose age has been confirmed, has not been taken. The family of the deceased was present in large numbers during the court proceedings.
