In a recent development at the District Court in La, the Police Prosecutors have been ordered to provide the Court with a Hospital report indicating the age of the final year Senior High School student from O’Reilly Senior High School who has been accused of the murder of another student.
The Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei, informed the Court that necessary steps have been taken and the report is expected to be ready by Friday, September 20th.
The case involves the tragic murder of Edward Borketey Sackey, allegedly by a classmate following a dispute over their respective family wealth.
During the court session on Thursday, September 19, 2024, Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei confirmed the readiness of the Postmortem report and the collection of blood samples from the accused, whose identity has been withheld.
Despite the prosecution's request for a week's adjournment, the Court declined, citing the public interest surrounding the case. The Magistrate, Her Worship Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi, expressed concern over the delay in processing essential case-related procedures during the two-week adjournment leading up to September 6.
As a result, the Court has mandated the production of the hospital report indicating the age of the accused by Friday, September 20. EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, has reported that the case will be called at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
The age of the accused has become a contentious issue, with conflicting claims from the deceased's family and others regarding his age, ranging from 18 to 24 years. This discrepancy has necessitated a medical examination to ascertain the true age of the accused.
The accused, a final-year student at O’Reilly Senior High School, stands accused of fatally stabbing a fellow classmate and has been provisionally charged with murder.
The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications, and it is essential for all involved parties to ensure that proceedings are conducted with utmost diligence and adherence to legal protocols.
