In a proactive move to ensure peace and security ahead of the 2024 general elections, the Ghana Police Service has announced a reward of GH₵20,000 for credible information that leads to the arrest of a group of individuals wanted for threatening violence in Obuasi.
The suspects, identified as Fuseini Yahuza, Bernard Ahedor, Simon, Basit, and Musa Yakubu (also known as “Agya Musah”), along with their accomplices, have been on the run since November 15, 2024. Their alarming actions came to light after a viral video surfaced showing them making statements aimed at disrupting the upcoming December polls. These actions have raised significant concerns among the public and authorities alike.
The police have classified the group’s behavior as a breach of public peace under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). In a statement released on November 15, the Ghana Police Service declared the individuals wanted and launched an operation to locate and apprehend them.
To further support this effort, the Police issued another statement on November 24, appealing to the public for assistance in their search for the suspects. As part of this appeal, a reward of GH₵20,000 has been offered to anyone who provides credible information that leads directly to their arrest.
The statement emphasized, “A reward of twenty thousand cedis (GH₵20,000.00) is being offered for any person who provides credible information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with credible information may contact the Police through a dedicated phone number: 0547927272.”
The Ghana Police Service has assured citizens of its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and order as the nation approaches a critical electoral period. The authorities have urged the public to collaborate with law enforcement by reporting any information that could assist in apprehending the suspects.
The announcement underscores the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding Ghana’s democratic process. The Police remain determined to ensure a safe environment for all citizens to exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation.
As the December elections draw closer, it is crucial for all stakeholders—government agencies, political parties, civil society organizations, and citizens—to work together to promote peace and stability across the country. The Ghana Police Service’s appeal for public cooperation serves as a reminder that security is a shared responsibility.
