The teenage son of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako has been sentenced to six months at a senior correctional centre for his involvement in a fatal car accident in East Legon.  The 16-year-old pleaded guilty to eight charges, including two counts of manslaughter, stemming from the accident that tragically claimed the lives of two young girls.

Court Proceedings and Plea

Initially pleading not guilty to charges of manslaughter, negligently causing harm, dangerous driving, and driving without a license, the teenager subsequently changed his plea to guilty.  This led to his conviction and sentencing by the Family and Juvenile Court.  The court's decision reflects a balance between accountability for the serious consequences of his actions and the principles of juvenile justice.

Sentence Details and Parental Accountability

In addition to the six-month correctional sentence, the court ordered the teenager to report to probation officers bi-weekly and to refrain from driving until he reaches the age of 18.  In a separate ruling, the teenager's parents, Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife, were each fined 500 penalty units (GH¢6,000) for their failure to adequately supervise their son.  They were also ordered to compensate for damages caused by the accident, including the cost of replacing a damaged light pole (GH¢8,000).

Accident Details and Public Response

The accident occurred on October 12th, at Mensah Wood Street in East Legon.  The teenager, driving a Jaguar F-Pace belonging to his parents, collided with another vehicle, resulting in the immediate deaths of the two young girls.

The incident has sparked significant public discussion regarding road safety, parental responsibility, and the need for stricter enforcement of laws related to underage driving.  The case highlights the devastating consequences of reckless driving and underscores the importance of responsible parenting in preventing such tragedies.
