In a significant operation carried out by the Tema Community 1 District Police, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the possession of a substantial quantity of suspected Indian hemp. The suspects, identified as Nura Sali (44), Pius Chukwuma (49), Mustapha Umar (18), and Abdulai Amayau (23), were apprehended at the Tema Industrial Area on charges relating to drug possession and transportation.
The operation led to the discovery of 315 compressed parcels of suspected Indian hemp, which had been meticulously concealed within the tyres of a truck. The vehicle, bearing registration number GN 7291-16, was intercepted during the police operation, marking a significant success in efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
Following their arrest, the suspects were arraigned before the Ashaiman Circuit Court on Thursday, September 11, 2025. The court has since remanded them into police custody, pending further legal proceedings. The suspects are scheduled to reappear in court on September 30, 2025.
The truck used in the transportation of the suspected narcotics has been impounded on the orders of the court. Authorities have indicated that the vehicle will remain in custody as investigations continue to uncover any further details surrounding this case.
