A 35-year-old man, identified as Benjamin Owusu, has been apprehended by police for allegedly fabricating a robbery and kidnapping incident in an attempt to conceal the embezzlement of funds belonging to his employer. The arrest followed a series of investigations prompted by inconsistencies in his initial report of the staged crime.

The suspect, who was initially treated as a victim, was taken into custody on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, and is currently being held at the Central East Regional Police Command. According to police reports, Owusu confessed to orchestrating the false incident after his arrest, citing his inability to account for monies entrusted to him by his employer.

The alleged crime was first reported on September 3, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m., when Owusu contacted the police claiming he was under attack by robbers at his residence in Fijai, a suburb of Millennium City near Kasoa. Upon visiting the supposed crime scene, however, police found no trace of Owusu at the location. Instead, blood stains were discovered on the floor of his bedroom, raising concerns that he might have been harmed.

Samples of the blood stains were subsequently collected and sent to the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory for analysis. However, forensic results revealed that the samples were not human blood. Further investigations disclosed that Owusu had killed a duck and used its blood to stage the appearance of violence in his bedroom.

In addition to this discovery, police noted that Owusu had abandoned the SIM card used to send a text message to a complainant regarding his alleged kidnapping. However, he later replaced the SIM card and resumed communication from Elubo in the Western Region on September 5, 2025. This activity enabled police intelligence to track him to a hideout in Akatamanso in the Ashanti Region, where he was arrested on September 24.

Following his apprehension, Owusu reportedly confessed to fabricating the entire incident as a desperate measure to cover up the misappropriation of employer funds. Police have since issued a statement confirming that preparations are underway to prosecute him in court.

This case highlights the lengths to which individuals may go to evade accountability for financial misconduct. The Central East Regional Police Command has assured the public that due legal processes will be followed to ensure justice is served.
