On July 23, during a briefing on recent anti-crime operations, the Tema Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Eric Asamoah Asiedu, revealed details of the operation. According to DCOP Asiedu, a tipper truck was intercepted at Afienya following an intelligence-led operation. This decisive action led to the arrest of two suspects, who are currently remanded in custody.
The operation took a dramatic turn when one of the suspects allegedly attempted to bribe officers with a substantial offer of GH¢150,000 in exchange for the release of the truck and its cargo, which contained 5,039 compressed parcels of suspected narcotic substances. The officers, demonstrating exemplary adherence to ethical standards, rejected the bribe.
DCOP Asiedu lauded the officers for their integrity, stating, "Our officers rejected an alleged GH¢150,000 bribe offered by a suspect who sought the release of the truck carrying the suspected narcotic substances."
