In a significant development in the Adabraka jewellery shop robbery case, proceedings at the Accra Circuit Court have been adjourned to June 17, 2026. The decision was made after the Attorney-General’s Department informed the court that it had not yet received the police docket for advice, a critical step in advancing the case.
The case was called before Circuit Court 3, presided over by Her Honour Susana Eduful. Assistant State Attorney Lamisi Pabila informed the court that despite earlier indications from the police that the docket had been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Department, checks at the department’s registry revealed that no such document had been received. This discrepancy has caused a delay in the prosecution's ability to proceed with the case.
Chief Inspector Ebenezer Teye Okuffo, representing the prosecution, reiterated that the docket had indeed been sent to the Attorney-General’s Department. However, the Assistant State Attorney maintained that it had not been received, prompting her to request an adjournment to allow for the completion of necessary legal procedures.
Defence Counsel Appeals for Bail or Discharge
Paul Assibi Abarigah, counsel for the first four accused persons, urged the court to grant his clients bail or discharge them. He argued that the accused individuals had been held in custody for an extended period while the prosecution was yet to finalize its processes. Abarigah suggested that if the police were ready to proceed at a later date, they could re-arrest his clients.
Responding to this appeal, the Assistant State Attorney maintained her stance on seeking an adjournment, emphasizing the need for time to complete procedural requirements. Following deliberations, Her Honour Susana Eduful ruled in favor of an adjournment and directed the police to file all necessary disclosures and witness statements in line with established Case Management Conference (CMC) practice directions.
The Alleged Crime and Charges
The six accused — Saum Mohammed alias Fariwata, Alhassan Iliyasu alias Arab Man, Hamza Agerego alias Nene Bawku, Abdul-Samed Bonsiabu Larry alias Tough, Fatawu Ibrahim alias Motorway, and Abubakar Sadik alias Fifty Cent — are facing trial over their alleged involvement in a robbery at Cabest Jewellery shop in Adabraka. Each has pleaded not guilty to three charges: conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery of GH¢400,000 belonging to businessman Nana Kwame Afrani, and robbery of 12.5 kilograms of gold valued at GH¢14.39 million.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on July 27, 2024, when the accused allegedly stormed the jewellery shop armed with AK-47 rifles and travelling on three motorbikes. They reportedly fired gunshots at the premises, causing employees to flee before making away with cash and gold.
Subsequent investigations led to intelligence-led operations between November 2025 and January 2026 in Ashaiman and surrounding communities. These operations resulted in the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of ammunition, pump-action guns, police bulletproof vests, and other items.
Evidence and Bail Denial
Eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage are expected to play a pivotal role in the trial. The prosecution has indicated that eyewitnesses identified the accused during an identification parade and that CCTV recordings from the jewellery shop will be tendered as evidence.
Earlier in the proceedings, bail applications for the accused were denied. The court cited the gravity of the offences and concerns regarding the residential details of one of the accused as reasons for deeming them unsuitable for bail at this stage.
Looking Ahead
As the case is set to resume on June 17, 2026, all eyes will be on how both prosecution and defence prepare their arguments. The court’s directive for timely filing of disclosures and witness statements underscores its commitment to ensuring due process is followed in this high-profile case.
The Adabraka jewellery shop robbery has captured public attention not only due to its scale—GH¢400,000 in cash and 12.5 kilograms of gold were stolen—but also because of the alleged use of firearms and sophisticated planning. As justice takes its course, stakeholders will be watching closely for developments in what promises to be a pivotal legal battle.
