In a case that underscores the severity of criminal behavior, the Kwadaso Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced two individuals to a combined 36 years in prison for conspiring to rob a taxi driver in Atwima Kwanwoma. The convicts, Maxmillian Foli, alias "Thug," and Blessing Ohe, alias "Demon," pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them and were subsequently sentenced to 21 years and 15 years imprisonment, respectively.

The Incident

According to the facts presented by Police Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi, the incident occurred on August 28, 2025. The complainant, Emmanuel Poku, a taxi driver residing in Bokankye near Asuoyeboa, was targeted by the duo who lived in Atwima-Akyeremade near Kwadaso. On the day of the crime, Foli and Ohe convened at their usual meeting spot and devised a plan to rob a taxi driver using pairs of scissors as their weapon of choice.

Later that evening, Foli contacted Ohe to meet him at Sofoline, where they intended to execute their plan at 9:00 PM. However, Ohe failed to show up at the agreed time. Undeterred, Foli proceeded alone and hired the complainant for a fee of GHc 70.00 to transport him from Sofoline to Akyeremade.

Upon entering Akyeremade town, Foli spotted Ohe by the roadside and instructed the taxi driver to stop and pick him up. Sensing potential danger, the complainant drove past the location and continued toward Kwanwoma. However, before reaching Kwanwoma township, Foli pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed the complainant in the back. He then demanded that the driver surrender his vehicle and valuables.

In excruciating pain, the complainant abandoned his taxi, which Foli drove back toward Sofoline after taking unspecified daily sales, a car tape, and a Samsung A20 mobile phone belonging to the victim. The vehicle was later abandoned by Foli.

Police Intervention and Arrest

The complainant promptly reported the incident to the Denchemmuoso Police. Authorities retrieved the abandoned taxi and initiated an investigation. Ohe was apprehended later that night, and a search revealed he was carrying a pair of scissors. Subsequently, on September 1, 2025, Foli was arrested at his hideout in Kwanwoma.

Both individuals admitted their involvement in the crime during their caution statements. Following thorough investigations, they were charged with conspiracy and robbery before being presented in court.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

During court proceedings presided over by Mr. Jephthah Appau, both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges against them. Foli received a sentence of 21 years imprisonment for conspiracy and robbery, while Ohe was sentenced to 15 years for conspiracy. Their combined sentences total 36 years behind bars.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of criminal actions and highlights the importance of swift justice in ensuring public safety. It also underscores the vigilance of law enforcement agencies in apprehending offenders and bringing them to justice.

Conclusion

The sentencing of Maxmillian Foli and Blessing Ohe reflects the court's commitment to upholding the law and protecting innocent citizens from harm. As communities continue to grapple with issues of crime, this case stands as an example of how collaboration between law enforcement and judicial systems can effectively address criminal behavior and maintain societal order.
