Manso Nkwanta, Ashanti Region – The Manso Nkwanta District Police Command has apprehended two suspects following the death of 28-year-old Yaw Asamoah in Abrense, Atobiase electoral area. The incident occurred during a funeral wake-keeping, sparking outrage and fear within the community.
According to eyewitnesses, Yaw Asamoah had visited “K.K. Spot,” a local drinking spot frequented by commercial sex workers. An argument ensued after Asamoah accused one of the sex workers of stealing GH¢1,000 from him. The confrontation escalated, drawing attention from others at the wake-keeping.
Asamoah was later reported missing, and his body was discovered two days later in an abandoned mining pit near the community. Samuel Yeboah, the Atobiase electoral area representative, and the deceased’s brother expressed their grief and urged the police to ensure justice is served. Yeboah described Asamoah as a hardworking young man whose life was tragically cut short.
The police have confirmed the arrest of two individuals who are currently assisting with investigations. Their statements are being reviewed as part of efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding Asamoah’s death. The body has been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Authorities have assured the public that justice will prevail and are urging community members to cooperate with the police by providing any relevant information. This incident has raised concerns about security and illegal activities in the Amansie West District, prompting calls for increased police patrols and community vigilance.
