In a recent development, the Ghana Embassy in Washington DC has confirmed the arrest and detention of Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu by United States authorities. The arrest follows an extradition request submitted by the Government of Ghana.

According to an official statement issued by the Embassy, Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center in Pahrump, Nevada. The detention facility is located at 2190 East Mesquite Avenue. The Embassy revealed that Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu was apprehended by the United States Marshals Service on January 6, 2026, and has since remained in custody.

The statement further clarified that the arrest was executed in response to an extradition request made by Ghanaian authorities in July 2024. Acting on this request, US Marshals took Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu into custody, where she is now awaiting court proceedings as part of the extradition process. The Embassy emphasized that these proceedings are being carried out in accordance with US legal protocols.

While the Embassy confirmed the arrest and detention, it refrained from providing details regarding the specific charges underlying the extradition request or the anticipated timeline for court proceedings. The case is expected to proceed through established legal channels in the United States.

This development marks a significant step in what appears to be a high-profile legal matter involving cooperation between the governments of Ghana and the United States. The Embassy assured that it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.

As events unfold, all eyes will remain on the legal proceedings to determine the next steps in this case. For now, Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu remains in custody at the Nevada Southern Detention Center, awaiting her day in court.
