The La District Court has taken a firm stance in a disturbing case involving the alleged assault of a 12-year-old girl near the La Roman Junior High School. The accused, Precious Giftan Mesopeh, 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, 25, are facing charges of conspiracy, assault, and cruelty to a child. Their mother, Priscilla Novishie Wanyo, who is reportedly implicated in the case, remains at large and is currently being sought by the police.

During their court appearance, both Precious and Princess pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. However, their bail application was denied by the court, which ordered that they be remanded in custody for a period of two weeks. The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Gladys Aikins Asare, strongly opposed the bail request, citing the need for additional time to complete investigations and expressing concerns that the accused individuals posed a flight risk.

The case has been adjourned to January 19, 2026, when further proceedings are expected to take place.

 Details of the Incident

Presenting the prosecution’s case, Chief Inspector Asare provided an account of the events leading to the charges. According to her statement, the victim, whose identity has been withheld for her protection, frequently visited the Mesopeh household to assist with domestic chores and errands.

The incident in question occurred on December 30, 2025. On that day, the victim reportedly had a disagreement with the accused persons’ seven-year-old brother. The disagreement escalated into a physical altercation during which the young boy sustained injuries. Following the incident, the boy informed his family about what had transpired.

The prosecution alleges that Precious and Princess subsequently sought out the victim and subjected her to an assault that left her with injuries and significant bodily pain. A video recording of the assault was later shared widely on social media, drawing public attention to the case and prompting law enforcement to act swiftly in apprehending the accused individuals.

The Legal Proceedings

The court’s decision to deny bail underscores the seriousness of the charges and the ongoing nature of police investigations. Chief Inspector Asare emphasized that granting bail at this stage could potentially hinder the investigative process and increase the risk of the accused fleeing from justice.

The absence of their mother, Priscilla Novishie Wanyo, further complicates matters, as she is reportedly implicated in the case but has yet to be apprehended. Authorities continue their search for her as part of their efforts to ensure accountability for all parties involved.

Public Reaction

The case has sparked significant public outrage, particularly due to the involvement of a minor as both a victim and an alleged instigator of events leading to the assault. The circulation of the video on social media has amplified calls for justice and highlighted concerns about child protection and violence in communities.

 Looking Ahead

As the case progresses, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding children from harm and ensuring accountability for those who perpetrate violence against them. The adjournment until January 19, 2026, will provide an opportunity for further evidence to be presented and for justice to take its course.

The public will undoubtedly continue to follow this case closely as it unfolds in court. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are expected to intensify their efforts to locate Priscilla Novishie Wanyo and bring her before the court to face justice.
