An Adabraka District Court has remanded two traders, Ese Popo (24) and Marvellous Akpos (23), for their alleged involvement in an attempted murder case that has garnered significant attention. The pair stands accused of stabbing a colleague, Smart Precious Hycient, during an attack that took place in Spintex.

The court did not take the pleas of the accused, who are charged with conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder. They are scheduled to reappear in court on January 10, 2026. Notably, two additional accomplices remain at large, and law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing them.
Police Chief Inspector Apewah Achana informed the court that the complainant, Smart Precious Hycient, is a businessman residing in Spintex, while the accused individuals are Nigerian nationals living in Ghana. The circumstances surrounding the case are complex, involving financial transactions and personal disputes.
Background of the Dispute
In September 2024, Hycient extended a loan of 10,000,000 Naira to Popo, who provided his Benz GLC vehicle and its documents as collateral. After repaying 9,500,000 Naira, Hycient returned the vehicle, pending the payment of the remaining balance of 500,000 Naira. However, the situation escalated when Popo allegedly began to undermine Hycient’s reputation among friends and on various social media platforms for reasons that remain undisclosed.
The Confrontation and Attack
On September 17, 2025, Hycient encountered Popo and Akpos at a pharmacy in Spintex, where he confronted Popo regarding the damaging behavior. This confrontation reportedly became heated, prompting Hycient to leave the pharmacy and return home.
At approximately 1:00 AM the following day, Popo, Akpos, and two unidentified accomplices allegedly went to Hycient’s residence and attacked him, inflicting severe cuts to his back and midsection. Following the attack, the assailants fled the scene.
Aftermath and Arrest
Hycient received immediate assistance from neighbors and friends, who helped him reach Ridge Hospital for medical treatment. Subsequently, he reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of Popo and Akpos on September 24, 2025. During police investigations, both accused reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crimes.
