In a significant breakthrough, the Ghana Police Service has successfully recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux pick-up and other items following an intelligence-led operation into a residential robbery reported on December 4, 2025. The operation also resulted in the identification of a prime suspect connected to the incident, marking another step forward in the Service's commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety.

The robbery in question involved armed attackers who stormed the residence of a female complainant. During the attack, they made away with her Toyota Hilux, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and other personal belongings. The incident prompted the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to launch an extensive investigation to apprehend those responsible.

According to a statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, weeks of meticulous intelligence gathering culminated in the identification of a suspect named Clement Kofi Aidoo, who also went by the aliases Joseph Abequaye, Yaw, and Paddy.

When law enforcement officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, he reportedly resisted arrest and attacked the officers. In response to this aggression, the officers were compelled to return fire. The suspect sustained gunshot wounds during the altercation and was subsequently rushed to the Police Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.

A thorough search conducted in connection with the suspect led to the recovery of the stolen Toyota Hilux, the victim’s mobile phone, and several documents believed to be associated with criminal activities. This discovery underscores the success of the police operation and their ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the country.

Further investigations revealed that in November 2025, the same suspect had reportedly stolen a Toyota Camry belonging to a police officer. The officer had engaged the suspect through a recruitment agency to care for his sick father. The stolen vehicle was later recovered in Ghana’s Central Region after the suspect abandoned it during a police pursuit.

The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks, recovering stolen property, and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice. This recent operation serves as a testament to their dedication to safeguarding lives and property while maintaining law and order across the nation.

The Service also reiterated its call for public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities and providing information that may assist in preventing or solving crimes. By working together, law enforcement agencies and citizens can create a safer environment for all.

This success story highlights the critical role of intelligence-led operations in modern policing and demonstrates the Ghana Police Service's resolve in addressing criminal activities effectively.
