In a significant operation underscoring the commitment of law enforcement to public safety, the Oti Regional Police Command has apprehended two individuals for the unlawful possession of arms and ammunition. This follows the interception of a truck reportedly transporting concealed ammunition from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region.

The operation was initiated on February 7, 2026, when the Oti Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) received credible intelligence about a Kia Rhino truck, bearing registration number GS 4677–17, which was allegedly loaded with boxes of ammunition. The vehicle was reportedly en route to Kpandai. Acting on this information, the Regional PID Director, ASP Maxwell Osafo-Adamu, swiftly deployed an intelligence team to monitor and intercept the suspected vehicle.

On February 8, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the police team successfully executed an ambush, intercepting the Kia Rhino truck. A meticulous search of the vehicle yielded alarming results: one locally manufactured single-barrel shotgun and 21 boxes containing a total of 525 rounds of Lion AAA and BB ammunition. The items were strategically concealed among building materials in what appeared to be an attempt to evade detection.

The driver of the truck, identified as Abubakari Salam Atta, and his assistant, Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, were arrested at the scene. Both individuals admitted ownership of the firearm and ammunition found in the vehicle. The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. They are expected to be processed for court in accordance with the law.

The Oti Regional Police Command has reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating the illegal possession and trafficking of firearms and ammunition. Such activities pose a grave threat to public safety and national security, and the police remain resolute in their efforts to address these challenges.

Furthermore, the Command has called upon members of the public to support their efforts by providing timely and accurate information that can aid in maintaining peace and security in the region. Photographs of the suspects and the retrieved exhibits have been secured as part of the ongoing investigation process.

This successful operation highlights the importance of intelligence-led policing and collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public. The swift action taken by the Oti Regional Police Command serves as a reminder of the critical role that proactive measures play in ensuring public safety and upholding the rule of law.
