In a coordinated security operation, the Ghana Police Service, in conjunction with the Ghana Immigration Service, has apprehended 12 Nigerian nationals suspected of involvement in organized cyber fraud and human trafficking activities. The operation, executed on March 12, 2026, underscores the commitment of Ghanaian authorities to combating transnational crimes within the country's borders.

The operation was spearheaded by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, working in close collaboration with the Surveillance Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and officers from the Amasaman Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service. The effort was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Malaika Jibril Alhassan from Police Headquarters and Superintendent Francis Baidoo of the Amasaman Sector Command.

During the operation, law enforcement officials conducted a thorough search of the suspects' premises. This led to the recovery of items believed to be used in cybercrime activities, including 25 laptop computers and seven mobile phones. These devices are currently being examined as part of ongoing investigations into the alleged criminal activities.

According to security officials, the suspects initially attempted to disrupt the operation by releasing German Shepherd dogs on the officers. However, swift reinforcements from the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team and the CID Surveillance Unit ensured that law enforcement personnel were able to secure the premises and complete their mission without further incident.

Authorities have also revealed that six additional Nigerian nationals, believed to be connected to the case, remain at large. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend these individuals, who are wanted for illegal migration-related offences under Ghanaian law.

The Ghana Police Service and Immigration Service have reiterated their commitment to upholding national security and enforcing laws against cybercrime and human trafficking. Investigations into this case are ongoing, and officials have assured the public that they remain steadfast in their efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice.

This latest development highlights the importance of cross-agency collaboration in addressing complex criminal networks that transcend national borders. The Ghanaian authorities have called on members of the public to provide any relevant information that could assist in apprehending the remaining suspects.
