In a significant operation on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, police authorities in the Volta Region successfully retrieved a consignment of abandoned substances suspected to be narcotic drugs. The substances were discovered concealed in sacks within an isolated bush at Adaklu Ahunda, near Ho.
According to information provided by the Police Headquarters, the Volta Regional Drugs Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) acted on intelligence received at approximately 6:30 p.m. The intelligence suggested that unidentified individuals had used a tipper truck to transport and abandon the suspected narcotics at the remote location.
Upon receiving this information, the Volta Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr. Wisdom Akorli, promptly mobilized a specialized team to investigate and retrieve the illicit substances. The operation was led by D/Sgt Roland Chewatey of the Regional DLEU, with support from Inspector Samuel Owusu, who drove the service pickup vehicle with registration number GP909. A Police Transfer Truck, with registration number GP329 and driven by G/Cpl Samuel Opare, was also deployed to assist in transporting the materials.
Upon reaching the site, the team, with assistance from civilian witnesses, successfully retrieved and loaded thirty-nine (39) sacks containing the suspected narcotic substances onto the transfer truck. However, while en route to their destination, the transfer truck reportedly developed a minor mechanical fault, prompting the loading team to return to provide assistance.
Upon their return to the scene, the team encountered three police officers from the Ho Division, including D/C/Inspector Gabriel Saenafu. The officers confronted the driver of the transfer truck, with one of them allegedly pointing a weapon at him and demanding his arrest. This unexpected development led to further intervention.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. Richard Dotsey Gablah, Director of the Regional DLEU, was immediately informed of the situation. He proceeded to the location accompanied by the Volta Regional Director of Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) and Chief Superintendent Boakye Ansah, the Ho Central Divisional Police Commander.
The police transfer truck, along with the retrieved exhibits, was subsequently escorted to the Municipal Police Station for initial processing before being conveyed to the Regional DLEU for safekeeping and further investigation.
Authorities have not yet disclosed additional details regarding the origin or intended destination of the suspected narcotics. Investigations into the matter are ongoing as law enforcement agencies work to identify those responsible for the abandoned consignment.
This operation underscores law enforcement's commitment to combating drug-related activities in the region and safeguarding public safety.
