In a commendable operation, the Upper West Regional Police Command has successfully dismantled a motorbike theft syndicate that has been causing distress within the region. This operation has led to the arrest of multiple suspects and the recovery of 17 stolen motorbikes, marking a significant victory in the fight against crime in the area.
The breakthrough came after a report was filed on July 11, 2026, by a victim whose black Luojia motorbike, bearing the registration number M-21-UW 3512, was stolen from the premises of the Ghana National Fire Service in Jirapa. Swift action and strategic intelligence gathering by the police resulted in the arrest of Nasiru Muftawu at Loho, who was found in possession of the stolen motorbike. Upon interrogation, Muftawu admitted to the theft and is now in custody assisting with further investigations.
The operation did not stop there. Continued intelligence-led efforts led to the apprehension of additional suspects: Basit Muftawu, also known as Posey, aged 19; Issahaku Maruf, alias Katel, aged 22; and Mohammed Ali, alias Geewaa, aged 18. The investigation also uncovered further evidence linked to Rashid Kankan, 20; Mutala Rashad, 20; and Haruna Hamdan, alias DJ, 20.
The diligent work of the police culminated in the recovery of 16 more motorbikes stolen from various locations including UBIDS, Chakor, and Glamon within the Wa Municipality. The suspects have been arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court and are currently remanded into police custody. They are scheduled to reappear before the court on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has extended an appeal to members of the public who have lost their motorbikes to report to the Wa District Police Headquarters with valid ownership documents for identification and retrieval.
